چکیده

Fig 1. Left side of the chest skin biopsy for primary malignant melanoma. Histopathologic examination found a thick primary melanoma characterized by atypical pigmented epithelioid cells with extensive ulceration. INTRODUCTION Spontaneous regression of malignant melanoma is defined by the disappearance of melanocytic neoplastic cells partially or completely. In contrast to the partial form, complete spontaneous regression of primary malignant melanoma is a rare-occurring phenomenon, with 76 cases reported in the literature since 1866. The criteria for the diagnosis of regression were established by Smith and Stehlin and modified later. Overall, the impact of partial or complete regression on prognosis is anecdotal and controversial; however, we report a case with complete regression of a histologically diagnosed thick primary malignant melanoma with rapid development of metastatic disease and death. Spontaneous regression of metastatic malignant melanoma.

Spontaneous regression of metastatic malignant melanoma is rare. A case is presented here. The primary lesion, a lentigo maligna melanoma of the face, recurred after excision and metastasized to the parotid and upper cervical lymph nodes, and to the lungs. The patient declined further therapy. There was no clinical or radiologic evidence of metastasis 1 year later.

Metastatic Malignant Melanoma of the Inguinal Lymph Node with Unknown Primary Lesion

Background. Malignant melanoma could present with metastasis with unknown primary (MUP) and this happens in 2-3% according to the studies. Around 90% of melanomas have cutaneous origin, but still there are melanomas that could be found in visceral organs or lymph nodes with unknown primary site. Spontaneous regression of the primary site could be an explanation. Case Report. We report a 58-year...

Comparison of c-Kit expression between primary and metastatic melanoma of skin and mucosa

Background: Melanoma causes the greatest morbidity and mortality of all skin cancers. Mucosal melanoma is a rare but highly aggressive neoplasm. According to previous studies the prevalence of KIT mutations in acrallentiginous and mucosal melanomas is relatively low (less than 15–20%), but it can have profound therapeutic implications for localized high risk or metastatic diseases. Our goal w...

The Value of Technetium-99m Labeled Alpha-Melanocyte- Stimulating Hormone (99mTc-α-MSH) in Diagnosis of Primary and Metastatic Lesions of Malignant Melanoma

Objective(s): Malignant melanoma is the most lethal type of skin cancers with unfavorable prognosis. Alpha-MSH peptide analogues have a high affinity for melanocortine-1 (MC1) receptors on melanocytes overexpressing in malignant melanoma cells. Pre-clinical studies have shown promising results for radiolabeled MSH imaging in this malignancy. The purpose of this study is to assess the diagnostic...
